Based on the hangings around the bed of St. Elizabeth in a triptych of the life of St John the Baptist by Van der Weyden, this "serpent" pattern, with a ribbed silk was designed by Sir Ninian Comper at the end of the 19th century, and is one of his most iconic designs.
